BREAKING CYCLES MENTORING PROGRAM
Breaking Cycles Program allows youth between the ages of 5 to 17 the opportunity to benefit from the successful relationships established via the mentoring process. This mentoring service exposes youth to protective factors such as problem solving skills, positive motivation, positive recreation, and age-appropriate structured activities. Strategies are implemented to develop and/or reinforce protective factors on a one-to-one basis, in an effort to provide a buffer to negative behaviors or risk factors such as teen pregnancy, illiteracy, incarceration, substance abuse, and violence. The Breaking Cycles Progam currently operates out of 8 public schools in the city of Richmond and serve more than 170 children.
Another focus of our mentoring program is to provide mentoring services specifically structured for Children of Incarcerated Parents. Participants in this program range in age from 4 to 18 years old. This type of mentoring assists children who are faced with the challenge of having an incarcerated parent. Our trained mentors provide an objective ear and support as children struggle with their individual issues related to growing up, as well as those resulting from their parents' incarceration.
